RM of Biggar’s story
The Rural Municipality of Biggar No. 347 was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 11, 1911. It surrounds the town of Biggar, where the RM's office is located, and is governed by an elected council and an appointed administrator that meets on the third Tuesday of each month.
Within the RM are a number of small communities and localities: Argo, Castlewood, Cazalet, Duperow, Monarchvale, Naseby, Neola, Oban and Vance. Springwater was once a village, until it was dissolved on December 31, 2006, and it is now a special service area.
One local attraction is Biggar & District Regional Park, about a kilometre north of Biggar on Highway 4. It has an 11-site campground, a group camping area with two cook shacks, and a 9-hole grass-greens golf course. Beside the course is the Biggar Trout Pond, which began as farmland in the 1960s. The land was later bought for the golf course, and with a slough already there, the town dug a hole and filled it with water. Today the pond has an island and a covered fishing bridge, and it is stocked regularly with rainbow trout.
